Evaluating Heart Rate Intensity Chart

March 19, 2020

Dear Parkside Families,

Hello, my name is Jesse Heppner and I teach Health and Physical Education at École Parkside School. During this unpredictable and challenging time for families we will continue to provide educational support for your child during our time apart.

A main goal of Health and Physical Education programs is to help children develop the skills to live an active and healthy lifestyle. As we transition to providing learning opportunities from a distance, our Physical Education program will require independent monitoring of daily active living patterns and routines.

Given that all recreation programming is currently postponed, our students have brainstormed some ways they can be active in their community during this time. When meeting these daily requirements, it is important to adhere to the most recent government health recommendations by visiting their site Province of Manitoba COVID-19:

  • Practicing independently or with a family member for sports that are personally important
  • Going for a walk or jog with or without the dog
  • Physical chores
  • Daily stretching
  • Dancing
  • Biking
  • Being outdoors
  • Workout routines that help you achieve your personal fitness goals (possibly access various online resources)
  • Free play

An expectation we have set for our students is 40 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day.
